Review: This film attempts to answer two questions: whether the fictional world of Metropolis Superman still missing, and the man of steel, mainly overgrown boy scout, can compete with the darker heroes and anti-heroes dominate the silver screen today (like Batman and the heroes of the Marvel Universe). Thus questions of both worlds is, Do we still need Superman? After watching the film, I'm glad that the answer is a resounding, Yes! Essentially, this film tribute to the first great film in every way. While little myopic view it as ripping off the first film or laziness on the part of the filmmakers, films saw themselves as a tribute to the great film that made us believe a man can fly (which as done everything to make us love movies). Thus, it helps to see the film in context. So if you loved the first film, you'll almost certainly love this one.Much as performed for X-Men and X2, Singer injected the story with both emotional depth and thematic undertones exciting and very relevant to what could have just another summer blockbuster filled with mindless action sequences into something much more. Singer made more efficient use of the messianic motif even from the first film did, and though I'm not particularly religious person myself, that Superman Mythos like a glove, since it is essentially the character are: a secular craft messiah. The high quality Singer helped bring this ambitious vision to life. Brandon Routh more than adequately filled the big shoes left behind by Christopher Reeve and Richard Donner, director of Superman: The Movie, wholeheartedly agree (said so in an interview with the BBC). Bosworth fittingly played the part of a woman that really moved her life after the man she loved abandoned her without so much as goodbye and displayed real confusion and even resentment rather than much-vaunted return it. Spacey actually released Hackman as Luthor made him a serious villain who just exuded hatred for the man of steel. Finally, Frank Langella and Sam Huntington roles perfectly filled Perry White and Jimmy Olsen, respectively.Still, viewers need to know a few things before watching the film. Although the film itself fails to do so explicitly, press releases makes it quite clear that Singer chose to ignore Superman 3 and 4 and instead concentrate on building a story that takes place after Superman I and II. Keep this in mind when you watch the film and you will not feel lost. Also, try to watch the first two films before watching this one. This tribute film Superman: The Movie in every single way (and more subtle Superman II), and picking up on those references will greatly improve your experience. Finally when I suggested before, do not expect a movie packed with action sequences. Although the film certainly awe-inspiring special effects and plenty of eye candy in the form of sequences of incredible action, the film aims to make an emotional connection with fans instead of just shelving them. Much like the first film, the effects are well undervalued and therefore serve the story rather than vice versa. Expect film of deep emotional movie instead movie.Enjoy simple act, and happy flying!
